Establishing a pcAnywhere Connection
This procedure is used to set up your system in order for BWC or Vetsone to
access your data and for communicating details over the Internet using
Pcanywhere32. Obviously, this procedure presumes you have Internet access.
We strongly recommend that you download and install ICQ. If you have
ICQ from Mirabilis (if not, go to our website, and at the bottom of the
frontpage, click on Download ICQ), then follow these directions:
ICQ Installed and Running

(Green Flower next to the Clock on the Task Bar)
|
No ICQ
|
First, verify that there is no pcAnywhere session running. If
you see the pcAnyhwere icon near the clock, double-click on it, and
click on CANCEL.
Once that is done, connect to the net as you always do. ICQ
will automatically start, and once connected, there should be a green
flower next to the clock on the task bar (as shown below)

Double-click on the BWC Internet Access
icon on the desktop (or go to Start
à
Programs à
BWC). You should see the pcAnywhere icon (shown above) next to the
clock. If there is no icon, try double-click on the Internet
Access icon. With ICQ running, we’ll automatically have your IP
address, and will access your system soon after that!!
If you get disconnected from the net,
you must double-click on the pcAnywhere icon next to the clock (shown
above), then click on the CANCEL button on the 'pcAnywhere waiting'
window. Follow these steps to re-establish the remote session:
1. Reconnect to the net.
2. Once connected, the ICQ flower should
reappear, then turn green. If you get an error that ICQ could not
connect to the server, or the flower remains red, right-click on the ICQ
flower, then go to Status/My Status, then click on Available/Connect.
It should appear green shortly thereafter.
3. Double-click on the BWC Internet Access
Icon.
|
- From the Task Bar, Go to START
à
INTERNET, and mouse-click on Connect to …(Your Internet Service
Provider). Then press the Connect button, and establish the
connection.
If the connection is
taking too long to establish, press the CANCEL button and try
again.
Once the connection has
occurred, go to START à
INTERNET, and mouse-click on Windows IP Cfg or WINIPCFG. This will
open the IP Configuration Dialog box with a bunch of numbers,
including the IP Address.
Mouse-click on the small
button (with a blue question mark) in the upper left corner of IP
Configuration, and a drop-down menu will appear. Mouse-click on the
COPY command. This will copy all necessary information about your IP
address to the clipboard.
Press the OK button on the IP
Configuration box, and it will disappear.
Start up your e-mail
application (go to START à
INTERNET, and mouse-click on Internet Mail).
Press the NEW MESSAGE button,
and address the e-mail to bwcdusty@bwci.com
If BWC is in your Address
Book, mouse-click on the little Rolodex symbol next to the TO:
field. This will bring up the SELECT RECIPIENTS box, and
double-click on the BWC entry. BWC will then show up in the To:
Box. Press the OK button.
With the e-mail addressed to
BWC, now mouse-click in the SUBJECT field and type an appropriate
subject heading for the purpose of the NetMeeting.
Mouse-click in the Message
area of the new e-mail, and then press the PASTE button (or go to
EDIT à
PASTE). The contents of the clipboard are now pasted in the message,
including the IP address.
Press the SEND button, and
the e-mail should be sent immediately. Some e-mail applications
require you to press the SEND/RECEIVE or CONNECT button.
Go to START and mouse-click
on pcAnywhere. This will start pcANYWHERE32.
With the BE A HOST PC pushed
in (default), double-click on the NETWORK icon. The application
should disappear, and be minimized on the task bar in the waiting
mode.
You will then just wait until
BWC has accessed your system, and we’ll then call back and have you
reboot the system.
Once the remote session is
over, close all applications that you have started for the remote
session (pcAnywhere (mouse-click on the PCANYWHERE - WAITING box on
the task bar and press the CANCEL button), Internet Mail) and
disconnect from your ISP.
|
Trouble-shooting
 | If nothing happens for several minutes, keep checking for new
e-mail (press the SEND/RECEIVE button). If we’re experiencing a problem, we
will send an e-mail as soon as we receive your first e-mail. |
 | If you get disconnected from your ISP (the RECONNECT button comes
up), press the RECONNECT button. Once connected, you will need to send us
your new IP address (a new one is assigned each time you connect to your
ISP). Cancel the current 'pcAnywhere Waiting', then redo the procedure
starting at Step 2. |
